Former Judge Renée Yanta


 

Former Judge Renée Yanta served as a District Court Judge for seven years. She not only tried jury cases, she presided over the entire gamut of civil and commercial litigation. She ruled in personal injury, oil and gas, contract, breach of fiduciary duty, employment, and governmental cases, always focusing on applying the law correctly. Judge Yanta also served as the judge in family law cases, developing deep experience in divorce, child support, modification, and child protection issues.

Before taking the Bench, Renée Yanta handled commercial litigation and appeals all over Texas, including many in the Texas Supreme Court. She became Board Certified in Civil Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in 2003. She was repeatedly named a Super Lawyer in the Appellate category. She also wrote over 300 articles on the law.

Since leaving the Bench in 2018, Judge Yanta has built a mediation, arbitration, and private judging practice. She also returned to her roots as an appellate lawyer. She handles the full range of civil appeals, including family, personal injury, and commercial law, in all Texas appellate courts, including the Texas Supreme Court.

She is a frequently-published legal author and taught Law at St. Mary’s. She has been recognized as a Super Lawyer and one of the top Women Lawyers in Texas. She has also been honored by the Bexar County Women’s Bar Association as the recipient of the Belva Lockwood Award. She recently was named one of the Best Women Lawyers in San Antonio by SA Scene.

Judge Yanta has uniquely invested in improving the love and care provided to foster children. While presiding over child-protection cases, Renée saw the special challenges faced by teen girls in Foster Care. She deployed her judicial resources to change the lives of these amazing young women, creating a healing program called PEARLS Court. She remains dedicated to these amazing children, serving as President of the PEARLS Foundation.
